Please see below a roundup of events, training and resources which are available to our Carbon Charter members.

First Carbon Charter members are certified 'Carbon Literate'

Congratulations to the twelve Charter members who completed our first Carbon Literacy training course in June!

Carbon Literacy is an awareness and understanding of the key issues and the actions we can all take to reduce our carbon emissions.

Our course has been specifically designed for Carbon Charter members and aims to help businesses and individuals to identify ways to manage their carbon emissions and take action on climate change.

Our next accredited Carbon Literacy course is running 9th,16th and 23rd November 2021 via Zoom. We can also deliver bespoke training courses for your team. If you or anyone in your team are interested in finding out more please get in touch with me.

Back at last - the annual Carbon Charter Summer Garden Party

Thanks to everyone who came along to our flagship sustainable business event at the home of Carbon Charter members Woolley in Freckenham on Thursday 1st July. It was great to see some of you again - in person at last! And a huge thanks to the Woolley team for their on-going support of the Charter. Please get in touch if you would like to host a Charter networking event at your premises or have an idea for a future event.

New Carbon Charter Case Studies

Please take a look at our updated Case Studies on the Carbon Charter website where we share examples of what our Charter members have achieved. We have new case studies for Skyview Systems and Stokes Sauces (who have both recently achieved Gold awards) and Shepherd Engineering (for their Silver award).

Environmental legislation- Brexit

Some of our Charter members have been asking us what leaving the EU means for environmental legislation in the UK.

The new Environment Bill, which is currently going through the House of Lords, will introduce new provisions to protect the natural environment and establish a new 'Office for Environmental Protection'. But in the meantime EU legislation - as it applied to the UK on 31 December 2020 - now forms part of UK domestic legislation. If you require any support interpreting the implications for your organisation, please get in touch. There is also further guidance on the legislation pages of the Charter website.

Member Support to calculate your Carbon Footprint

Whilst our Carbon Charter assessment process requires all our members to calculate a carbon footprint on initial accreditation and renewal, it is good practice to calculate your organisation's greenhouse gas emissions on an annual basis. Our team can help you to do this (free of charge) as part of your on-going Carbon Charter membership.

On-going Member Support from our environmental consultancy team is available to all our Carbon Charter members so please don't hesitate to get in touch for help with carbon footprinting or any other environmental management issues. Or check out the resources on the Carbon Charter website

Welcome to our new Carbon Charter assistant

Finally, we're pleased to report that Harry Grosvenor has recently taken on the role of Carbon Charter Assistant and will be providing support and membership services to our Carbon Charter members. Harry's role is part of the government's Kickstart Apprenticeship Scheme and we are very excited to welcome him into the Groundwork team.

All the best,
Amy and the Carbon Charter team
