Meet the BEE Team - Simon Best
This month we meet Simon Best from Nwes. As European Strategy Manager, he oversees the energy efficiency grants scheme
What’s your favourite thing about BEE Anglia?
It’s just a great offer – free, confidential and impartial energy efficiency reviews plus grants to help SMEs to invest to save. It really builds on REV ACTIVE and the other Norfolk and Suffolk projects that preceded it and the teams that came together to make it happen.
What did you do before working at BEE Anglia?
I’ve been involved in business/environment projects and programmes for years. I was regional manager of the Government’s Envirowise programme and worked in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia, in local government and in environmental management and pollution sciences consultancy – in South Wales and in New South Wales.
What would you be doing if you weren’t at BEE Anglia?
I’ve been dabbling in websites and computer programming for ages. I produced early microsites for BAFTA and even the Sunday Times. In fact, I first worked with our delivery partner, Anna Martin at Groundwork, and Antony Gough, who manages BEE Anglia’s sister project in Peterborough, many years ago when we set up a regional online waste exchange called Eastex.
What’s your favourite place in the world?
The farthest flung reaches of the Glastonbury Festival late on a Saturday night. Or the Norfolk Broads or West Dorset in May or the French Riviera.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Messing about in boats. And buying them. It’s verging on an addiction and I should probably seek some kind of therapy.
If you could have any superpower, what would you choose?
An infinite attention span.
Tell us something about you that we couldn’t guess
My dressing gown is second hand. It used to belong to Nobel Prize-winning English playwright, screenwriter, director and actor, Harold Pinter.
Thanks Simon, come back soon to meet another member of the BEE Anglia project team
